On 18 May 2020 the French Council of State ordered to the State to cease, without delay, to carry out surveillance measures using drones in Paris to monitor compliance with the health security rules related to COVID 19 pandemic. It addressed the legitimacy of an administrative decision allowing the use of drones aimed at ensuring the respect of containment measures related to the pandemic COVID 19. The Council of State considered that the use of the drones led to an unlawful processing of personal data because the State has not respected some data protection provisions (art. 31 loi 6 January 1978 n. 78-17 as amended).
